My personal journey into oil painting began with a fascination for its vibrant and bold colors. As a former watercolor artist, I appreciated the delicate nuances and fluidity of watercolors, but I was drawn to the intense pigments and the thick, textured strokes that oils uniquely offer. The ability to layer paint and achieve dimension captivated me, inspiring my transition to oils just last year.

What is Oil Painting?

Oil painting is a traditional and widely used medium that includes a mix of pigments with a binder like linseed oil to create vibrant colors and timeless works of art. Known for its richness and versatility, oil painting has been a favored medium for artists since the Renaissance, offering unparalleled opportunities for depth, detail, and creativity.

One of the defining characteristics of oil paint is its slow drying time, unlike watercolor and acrylic. It is an exceptionally forgiving medium as it allows artist time to manipulate the paint, blending colors seamlessly and layering details to achieve depth and realism. This quality makes oil painting ideal for creating textures, intricate details, and subtle gradations of light and shadow, often referred to as chiaroscuro. Famous artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, and Vincent van Gogh mastered the use of oils to create iconic works.

Today, oil painting remains a cornerstone of artistic expression, and for me, it represents a thrilling and vibrant new chapter in my creative journey.

“Baby Jigglypuff”

It all begins with an idea.

Pokémon fan art. Jigglypuff as if she were a baby.

The cutest idea that could ever cross my mind was to paint a baby version of Jigglypuff. And yes I know that Igglypuff is considered the baby version of Jigglypuff. But I really wanted to explore how Jigglypuff would look as a baby. And not just Jigglypuff but a few other prominent Pokémon characters to come.

My goal for this piece was to capture the innocence and joy that Jigglypuff feels in the moment. I took an innovative approach with changing Jigglypuff’s proportions so that she would be perceived as a baby. In this piece Jigglypuff is in a world of her own, bouncing on a pink plastic bed with 3 balloons in her hand without a care in the world. Jigglypuff’s blue eyes highlight the joy and curiosity of the world around her.

This adorable, whimsical, fantasy art piece will add such a charming accent to your home. Whether you’re wanting to decorate your child’s room with a joyful and playful influence or if you’re a fan of Pokémon art and would love to add this print to your art collection, this piece is for you! I had so much fun creating this art piece and I hope that this piece will bring you just as much joy to own as it has for me to create it!
